Companies House has announced plans to introduce identity checks to prevent the misuse of companies for illegal activities. Starting in autumn 2025, anyone forming, managing, or owning a UK company must verify their identity.
Key changes include:
- Autumn 2025: New directors, significant controllers (PSCs), and LLP members must verify their identity at incorporation. Existing directors and PSCs will have 12 months to comply, linked to their confirmation statement deadline.
- Spring 2026: Anyone acting on behalf of a company will also need to verify their identity.
